Diurnal

It is a fish that lives in shallow waters between 1 and 16 m deep. They feed on plankton, algae and small crustaceans. Their caudal peduncle and adjacent areas are an intense yellow colour that contrasts with the electric blue of the rest of their bodies. Their ventral fins and the back of their anal and dorsal fins may also be yellow. Juveniles live in small groups, but adults go alone or with a partner. Males are territorial, guarding the nest and ventilating it until the eggs hatch.

Interesting facts

Depending on the environment and its condition, the intensity of their blue colour can lighten or darken, almost turning black when they hide in a crevice in fear.
