Diurnal
It is a solitary species that lives in coral-rich areas at least 30 m deep. They feed on crustaceans, brittle stars, small fish and molluscs. Adults have an elongated snout, but juveniles do not. They are sexually dimorphic — the female is smaller and duller in colour than the male. The female has a light-coloured first third of the body and the upper half of the snout is orange, while the male is greenish and has a bluish head and a yellow-green stripe above the pectoral fin.
Interesting facts
They have sequential hermaphroditism — first they are female and then male.
